From constantly churning a ball of molten glass that has to be kept at a red-hot temperature to multiple trips in and out of various ovens as the glass ball is blown and shaped into its final structure, glassblowing is an art form. It’s about more than just making art though. Brandon Price, owner of Blown Studios at 2301 Atlantic Avenue will show you it is about the experience that surrounds it and the mutual effort involved, especially when someone is learning. Blown Studios has created a variety of workshops with access to molten glass with no experience necessary. As a matter of fact, your first time around you can fashion your own artistic creation in the form of a flower, ornament, paperweight, drinking glasses and more. The classes last anywhere from 15 minutes to 60 minutes for beginners. There is even a “couples heart date night” package that allows you and your partner to each pick a color then it will be swirled together and encased in crystal to preserve your love forever. So spread your artistic wings and book one of these hands-on workshops offered at Blown Studio. Plan your next date night and sign up today.
Please tell us what to expect from one of your workshops?
You will learn the art of glassblowing through a guided tour of a glassblowing “hot shop” and then we’ll get to work! You’ll get to pick a piece, pick your colors and then we will work together to create your piece of glass art.
If a person is new to glass blowing…what workshop is best for a beginner?
All my classes are tailored for a beginner. This is really an experience in glassblowing. If you decide it’s something you want to do more of, let’s talk! I teach classes up to the expert level.
Do you work with individuals, couples, groups?
All of the above. I can accommodate groups of up to 8 people in my current location, work one on one to give you a very hands on teaching approach or have a couple in for an intimate setting, the ultimate hot date night.
Is there a skill set needed to blow glass?
In a short answer yes. The nice part about my classes is I have done the hard work for you. You can utilize my 20+ years of experience to create beautiful glass on day one.
Please tell us about some of the other services that Blown offers?
We also offer glass artwork in the gallery and we are always happy to make custom pieces for your home, restaurant or office. We have had the pleasure to work with several local businesses on holiday presents, glassware for some of Savannah’s finest eateries and bars and several large scale installations for individual clients.
What is your favorite commissioned piece that you have worked on?
It’s hard to pick one. But if I had to, it would probably be the limited edition pieces I made for Shah Architecture here in Savannah. It was a real treat working with them on that project.
