If you haven’t been to Plant Riverside, grab your boo or your friends and go explore. The massive district has everything you could want and Scout can help you have a great night. So follow along and choose your own adventure!
As you walk into the main lobby, Generator Hall, explore the beautiful collection of art, geodes and of course the dinosaurs soaring overhead. Also, appreciate the dedication to preserving this historic power plant that has been unused since 2005 and now is bringing a new kind of energy to Savannah.
Adventure OR Views & Brews
Adventure: Just past guest services, you’ll find Baobab Lounge where you will be transported to Africa without the 20 hour flight. Here you will find traditional foods, drinks and walls covered in African art and animals. Belly up to the bar under the giant alligator, if you dare. Order a boost of energy with “The Mazagran,” a bourbon cocktail with smoked Madagscar vanilla syrup and pressed coffee. Smoked tableside, this cocktail and not only delicious, it’s also entertaining. Then let the adventure continue on your plate with The Biltong Tasting appetizer which includes pickled vegetables, chili bites and the name sake biltong, similar to a spice beef jerky, chewy, salty and flavorful. Eat light, there’s a lot to come. Don’t forget to get your picture taken with some of the African decor, very Insta-friendly.
Views & Brews: Head outside to District Seafood. With outside seating you’ll have expansive views of the river and Talmadge Memorial Bridge. Order up a “Honey I’m Home,” cocktail made with Savannah’s own Ghost Coast Honey Whiskey and lemon-ginger soda. It’s just the right amount of sweet & tart to go down smooth. Then you MUST try the Oysters Rockefeller, not an oyster fan, get them anyway. The oysters are cooked with collard greens and crusted with smoke bacon…they are rich, creamy, smoky and heavenly.
Messy, Casual & Smoky OR Refined & Modern
Messy, Casual & Smoky: Follow the amazing smell of BBQ to District Smokehouse, just next to District Seafood. Order up a “Ramblin’ Wreck,” made with corn whiskey, local root beer and don’t forget to add the bourbon cream…yum! Next, the smoked chopped brisket was juicey & savory and the pork ribs were meaty and painted with the perfect amount of sauce. The casual setting and beautiful views of the River will make you want to kick back and relax but we have one more stop you won’t want to miss.
Refined & Modern: Find your way back inside to Stone & Webster Chophouse where sleek modern meets the rustic history of the space beautifully. Find a seat near the open kitchen where you can feel the energy and see the action. Pick up their extensive spirits menu or try a “Canebrake,” made with Old Foresters Bourbon, Evangeline’s Praline Liqueur, Rivulet Pecan Liqueur and served with a cinnamon stick. Make sure you have a designated driver for this one! Then indulge in the creamy and rich lobster bisque and one of their delicious steaks. I tried the W Black Australian Wagyu Delmonico (pictured, tasting portion, not actual portion) which was divine and so tender I cut with a fork. Imported from a farm in Australia who raises their cows to ages three times longer than the American standard, the meat is rich and bold. The $115 price tag is not for the faint of heart but there are many less expensive and equally delicious meaty options.
Boozy Playground OR Garden Party
Boozy Playground: With your proper attire (your mask of course), find the elevators to Electric Moon Skytop Lounge. This place puts the energy into the powerhouse. With neon lights, dreamy views and lots of activities, you can start working off dinner. Top off with “The Pop Off,” a local popsicle from Savannah Square Pops submerged in prosecco. Then take the fastest way to The Moon Deck…a slide, yes I said slide! Zoom down to an adult playground with cornhole, ping pong and a wide assortment of games with beautiful views of downtown Savannah. If midnight munchies are required, they offer small bites like fresh Tuna Poke Tacos or Pork Belly Bao Buns. Everyone is a winner in this game, you chose the perfect night out!
Garden Party: With your proper attire (your mask of course), find the elevators to Myrtle & Rose Rooftop Garden. The romantic space dons flowers, soft lighting and glorious views of the Savannah River. If it’s possible that your tummy is still grumbling, try some of their small plates composed of deviled eggs, hummus, scallops and more. If dessert is more your jam, the beautifully presented and equally as tasty Marshmallow Pops trio are not to be missed. And of course, who doesn’t need a little chocolate to end the night, try the Chocolate Pot De Crème topped with a crispy peanut butter cookie. Sit in the comfortable garden and relax, you chose the perfect night out!
It’s always a good choice to check out some of Savannah’s finest local shops like Urban Poppy and 13 Secrets while you’re there. And visit Plant Riverside’s events page for entertainment and live music options.
