You may be asking who Jane is and why would I want to go on a date with her? I worked with a fabulous gentleman by the name of Ed “Coach” Smart. We would regularly discuss where he was going to take his “lovely bride Jane,” as he calls her, on his day off. This got me thinking more people should take a page out of Ed & Jane’s book. There is an art to dating, one that requires forethought and planning. In this weekly segment I am going to put together a “Date with Jane” that everyone can enjoy.
One of my favorite movies is Dirty Dancing and you know when Neil enters the room where Johnny is giving baby the dance lesson and states,”My grandfather put me in charge of the final show. I want to talk to you about the last dance. I’d like to shake things up a bit. You know, move with the times.” To which Johnny answers,”I’ve got a lot of ideas. I’ve been working with the staff kids on a cross between a Cuban rhythm and soul dancing.” Well guys I got a lot of ideas about Mambo and quarantine.
First, if we are going to Mambo we will most likely need to loosen up. What better way then with a Mojito. You might be saying where can I get mint during a pandemic? The answer Vertu Farms. Where can I get Rum? Ghost Coast has plenty stocked at your local liquor store, so glove up, don a mask and be safe. The rest of the recipe is most likely things you have already in stock.
Next you will definitely need some sustenance during this activity. Pick up some takeout from Rancho Alegre. I can personally vouch for the Lechon Asado with yellow rice, black beans and a side of tostones. You could also grab a Cuban Sandwich and some croquetas de jambon…all delicious.
Finally, cue up You Tube to Dance Steps with Partner: Basic Mambo step.
