Let’s celebrate October by taking part in some of Savannah’s great local events. Here is a list of some of the hottest happenings around town this month.  Remember to check back regularly as events are added as they are announced.

Plant Riverside Oktoberfest, October 1st-October 31st-Events & Times Vary

“Plant Riverside looks forward to celebrating Oktoberfest at Plant Riverside District with a blend of old and new traditions,” said Richard C. Kessler, Chairman and CEO of The Kessler Collection. “We warmly invite local residents and guests to join us at Savannah’s Entertainment District for a festive outdoor Oktoberfest event.” On Saturdays from 1-4 p.m., the Pavilion Tent along the riverfront at Plant Riverside District will feature free live music as well as free keg bowling, bratwurst eating contests and stein holding competitions. Bob and the Polka Dots will perform traditional polka music at the Pavilion Tent from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 3; Saturday, October 9; and Sunday, October 31. In addition, the Pavilion Tent at Plant Riverside District will feature free live music on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m., showcasing the Eric Culberson Band, Lyn Avenue, Draucker, Nickel Bag of Funk and other talented local and regional artists. Bob Taylor will perform live at the Biergarten on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. Throughout Oktoberfest, 14 exceptional restaurants at Plant Riverside District will offer a range of food and drink specials.

Poppell Farms opens for the 2021 Fall Season, Weekends Oct. 2-Oct. 31 2021

Opening October 2-31 for the Fall season! Daytime fun: Explore a 10-acre maze, wagon rides and a Pumpkin Patch!  Stay after dark on Friday and Saturday nights to explore the maze with a flashlight (it’s NOT haunted). Beginning October 8, after dark brave the Haunted Trail through the woods!  Areas of the farm are lit for visitors to enjoy some activities after dark.

Do you know how to recognize a Witch when you see one? Learn the secrets, or risk being turned into a mouse! This spooky play is best enjoyed by ages 10+ and is perfect for Halloween! Get tickets here.


Halloween Hike at Oatland Island Wildlife Center, October 15th & October 16th (tickets available October 1st), 5:00pm-8:00pm (SOLD OUT)

Take a walk with your Trick or Treaters​ down the forest trail to meet and gather goodies from friendly animal characters in this years fully outdoor event. Mother Earth will be there to show you the way and along the trails various character and candy stops await. There will be crafts, face painting, a fossil hunt and many more monstrous activities that await your arrival.  Tickets are by RESERVATIONS ONLY with no day of – onsite sales.  $5.00 for adults and $10.00 for children. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Last hike leaves at 8:0​0pm. Check October 1st for when Halloween Hike 2021 reservations will open.

Yoga Relay to Support Family Caregivers, October 15th-5:30pm-9:00pm

You are invited to join them in raising support for our local caregivers by joining together in a yoga relay! What’s a Yoga Relay? They will do 100 sun salutations together – you can do them all yourself, or create a relay team and tag in and out as needed. A caregiver is someone who provides care to another person who is elderly, ill, or disabled. Family caregivers receive little training on how to deliver complicated care. Not surprisingly, research shows that family caregivers are at increased risk for health, emotional, financial, and work-related problems. Hospice Savannah’s Edel Caregiver Institute is your community’s resource for hands-on training and support for family caregivers. 5:30 pm Event Begins | 6:00 pm Sun Salutations begin. Bring your yoga mat, a hand towel, water bottle. Masks encouraged, but not required. Five Spot’s food truck will be on-site serving up your favorite dishes and Johnny Ganem’s will be bartending.

Puppies and Pirates Treasure Hunt & Adoption Event with the Humane Society, October 16th-12:00pm-4:00pm

Come out on Pirate Fest Weekend for a Treasure Hunt with the Humane Society’s Adoptable Dogs. Grab a pup and your treasure map, and start your hunt on Tybee Island to find all the gems for your pup & yourself. To participate in puppies & pirates everyone must purchase a map. This will be your treasure hunting map. See below

It is a 2 mile round trip walk to complete the treasure hunt. They want to use this event to highlight pet friendly businesses and pet safe spots on Tybee since dogs are not allowed on the beach.

SLAM (MID-TERM) – SAVANNAH LOCAL ARTIST MARKET, October 16th-10:00am-5:00pm

For the first time The Savannah Local Artist Market will be holding a second market in 2021 – SLAM Mid-Term! This will be their 4th market which will feature over 60 local and regional artists will be held on Saturday, October 16th, 2021 from 10 am-5 pm at the Salvation Army Baseball field, 3000 Bee Rd. and Washington Ave. This free outdoor event, with masks and social distance in accordance with current CDC guidelines. The market will feature a wide variety of artists including fine arts, photography, jewelry, potter, fiber, mixed media, sculpture and so much more. Food trucks on site to feed the body after a day of mindful art!


Telfair offers a free admission family day to Savannah and Chatham County residents to view the exhibition Sonya Clark: Finding Freedom and other current works on view. The event will include take-home activities available for pickup as well as hands-on activity stations in the museum from 1–4pm, docent tours, and an artist demonstration.


Hello Neighbor Community Celebration at Forsyth Park, October 17th-11:00am-6:00pm

LIVE 2021 Hello Neighbor SAV Community Celebration, Sunday October 17, at Forsyth Park (bandshell area). All day Hello Neighbor SAV will host a citywide “Meet Your Neighbor: Community Celebration”, consisting of an interactive sculpture made collaboratively with the community and area Neighborhood Association groups called the “Monument of the Now”.  Pre-activities will start with fundraising yoga at 10 am followed from 11am – 6 pm with a day of food, vendors, community booths, art activities, and entertainment. We will also feature community speakers, artists, musicians, entertainment, neighborhood association community booths, face painting, and activities for people of all ages, so please mark your calendars and register now.

There are FIVE ways to participate;
1- as a participant, by coming and participating in the free interactive art and community building activities.
2 – as a Neighborhood Association group
3 – as a non-profit or artist providing a service, entertainment, musician, speaker or interactive artwork at the event.
4 -as a vendor selling your own local products to support the event with a $35 vendor fee to assist with the cost of the event and promotions.
5 – as a supporter by providing an in-kind or financial donation for this and other free Hello Neighbor SAV events. So please share with your friends and Register to get started.

Yoga Jam Series by New Yoga Now: Sacred Connection, October 17th-1:00pm-2:30pm

NYN’s beloved, intuitive teachers Kendall Beene and Emily Polonus join forces with Matthew Jaidev Duplessie of Audio Soul Healing for this multi-sensory yoga experience! Emily and Kendall incorporate creative movement, powerful breathwork, essential oils, and meditation into a fluid, steady vinyasa sequence. Matthew’s music weaves a vibrational tapestry thoughtfully designed to amplify the energetic intention of the vinyasa sequence. This Yoga Jam will be a treat- designed to cleanse and align the physical and mental bodies and recalibrate the energy body. Release your burdens to remember the sacred connections in your very being!

Fall Fair presented by the Humane Society for Greater Savannah, October 17th-11:00am-5:00pm

Come out October 17th from 11AM-5PM to enjoy local vendors, food trucks, petting zoo (yes, we said it, petting zoo!), pumpkins, costume contest, adoptable animals and more! Musical talents from the Armadillo Bluff acoustic duo will be on site. To participate in the costume contest for dog or people stop by our Costume Contest Booth. SavPhil X Savannah Music Festival Presents: Concerto for Strings, October 21st-Matinee & 7:30pm

Wag-O-Ween Weekend, October 23rd & October 24th-12:00pm-5:00pm

Savannah’s annual trick-or-treat event for dogs! Dress up with you favorite 4-legged friends and humans and trick-or-treat at Savannah businesses! The two day event allows you to enjoy the event at your leisure, or come back each day and explore a new area as Wag-O-ween is expanding from downtown Savannah to include the Starland District on 2021. Wag-O-Ween supports all local animal rescues – support their efforts and meet adoptable dogs while you collect treats. Funds raised also support the Sara Portman Community Fund, named after the event’s late founder, and focuses on spay and neuter efforts (including education and covering the cost of the procedure). Tickets are now available for purchase here.

Pegasus Riding Academy in Savannah is hosting Scary in the Dairy 2021 & Haunted Trails. Haunted Hay Rides, horse rides, pumpkin carving, cake walk, bubble factory and games. Plus a pumpkin carving contest at 6PM. Schools can compete. All of the above  and more @ Scary in the Dairy 2021, Sun. Oct. 24, 4-8PM. Proceeds benefit Pegasus Riding Academy Veteran’s Program. After the Scary in the Dairy Sunday festival, Haunted Trails @ Pegasus Riding Academy will be later that night 8-9:30PM Sun. Lulu the Giant Album Release, October 26th-7:00pm

Electric Moon to Host Dog Friendly “Costumes on the Woof”, October 28, 5:00pm-7:00pm

Electric Moon Skytop Lounge and The Moon Deck at Plant Riverside District will partner with Woof Gang Bakery to host a special Halloween event for dogs and their owners to enjoy. The first 100 participants will receive festive treats, including sweets for humans and special dog treats from Woof Gang Bakery. The highlight of the event will be the costume contest, where dogs and their owners will be judged on the creativity and originality of their coordinating costumes by a panel of local judges. A $25 participation fee will be collected at the door. All proceeds from the event will be donated to local, no-kill animal rescue organizations. This event is open to the public.

Savannah Ballet Presents Sleepy Hollow, October 29th & October 30th-1:00pm

Savannah Ballet Theatre is back with their original adaptation of Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow! Halloween Bash at Plant Riverside, October 30th-7:00pm-10:00pm

Plant Riverside District will host two exciting Halloween-themed events on Saturday, October 30, both of which are open to the public. Electric Moon Skytop Lounge at Plant Riverside District will host a lively Halloween party and costume contest with amazing prizes on the rooftop of the Power Plant Building overlooking the Savannah River. This spooky, fun-filled event for ages 21 and over will feature a DJ throughout the evening. $20 cover charge at the door. In addition, rock-soul band LaFaye & The Fellas will perform a free live concert at the Pavilion Tent along the Savannah riverfront while dressed up in Halloween costumes from 7-10 p.m. Cirque Divina will showcase a free Halloween Spectacular cirque show along the riverfront at 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Skidaway Island State Park Trunk-or-Treat, October 30th-1:00pm-8:00pm

Saturday, October 30, 2021, from 1 to 8 PM, Skidaway Island State Park will be hosting Trunk or Treat! There will be lots of outdoor activities that are sure to make for a fun night. They will have carnival-style games (1:00 – 4:30), a dog costume parade with an award for best costume, a pumpkin carving contest, kids’ pumpkin coloring, Trunk-or-Treat (4:30-6:30), and an outdoor Halloween-themed film the entire family can enjoy. If you would like to give out candy or to sign up for the pumpkin carving contest, please call the park office or email ariel.gernatt@dnr.ga.gov to sign up. Pumpkin carving contest entry fee is $7.00. Prizes to be announced. Wear your best costumes, bring your whole family (including your dog), and be ready for a night of fun!
