Meet Amelia Jamerson. She doesn’t call herself an artist but instead a “heart-ist.” The difference is that every time one of her pieces is created, it’s made with the purpose to inspire, to love and to encourage yourself and others. This is the passion and optimism that made Scout want to find out more about Amelia and her inspirational art work which can be found at 18 Loves Art. In Amelia’s own words, “Hearts are found on the forehead of all people and animals as a reminder to think and act in a loving way.” “What’s love got to do with it? EVERYTHING. This is how to save our world!” If you want to put a little love into the world then check out some of the heart felt items available: canvas prints, stickers, snail mail, magnets, tote bags and t-shirts.
Where do you find your inspiration?
Inspiration comes from everyday interactions, places and things. I will be out grocery shopping and get inspired by the cashier or the person trying to decide which cereal to choose.
How did you come up with the name 18LovesArt?
The number 18 holds a special place in my heart. Aside from being born on the 18th day, the digits also connect to the Hebrew word, “chai” (חי), which translates to life. The numerical value for “chai” is 18. Therefore, the number prompts me to link the value of life + love. To love is to live and it’s important to share and to practice that idea.
How can the Savannah community support your small business?
Just by showing up – whether that be on social media (IG, FB, TikTok = @18lovesart) or by coming to local events and markets and supporting us artists there.
Is there a piece of art that holds a special place in your heart?
Oof, this is a big, big, question. I’ve thought about it but can’t narrow it down. Each piece is so personal and heartfelt, I can’t pick one.
What are some of your favorite places to view art in Savannah?
What makes you feel accomplished?
I feel most accomplished whenever I reach a personal goal – i.e. create a calendar or a coloring book. Currently I’m aiming to make a themed greeting card set and a book.
What do you love about Savannah?
I love the hybrid feel of “big city” and “small town.” I absolutely adore that on any given day I can walk around and meet someone new from all over the world. People rock and I’m a tourist lover too…yes, I love tourists! 🙂
If you had one night only to spend in Savannah…what would Amelia do?
I’d start with a chocolate torte from Lulu’s Chocolate Bar. Then, I’d mozy over to Vic’s on the River and eat some fried green tomatoes. Next, a cocktail at Congress Street Up. Then, I’d look up a place to catch some live music. And I’d venture to as many rooftops as possible.
