If you buy all your plants at a big-box store, you’re missing out on a wealth of botanical treasures. That is what Kathleen Miller, owner of the newly opened Planted in Savannah is bringing to 7360 Skidaway Rd. Kathleen Miller hails from Cleveland Ohio. She fell in love with Savannah long before her first visit to the hostess city in 2010. After spending 25 years in the financial services industry, Kathleen decided to break free from corporate America, relocate to the south and realize her dream of pairing her love of indoor plants with her love of Savannah, Georgia. Read below to find out what you can expect from Planted in Savannah and make sure to drop by the super cute shop to pick up some unique items. Also, mark your calendars for their Grand Opening on August 12th from 5pm-7:30pm with light appetizers, a cash bar with their own signature cocktail, cupcakes from Saintly Sweets, raffles & door prizes.

What is the main thing people do wrong with houseplants?

Each variety of plant has its own individual needs. It’s our goal to educate our guests about best placement, shade vs. sun requirements and watering needs based on their selections.

Tell us some of your favorite plants you will have at Planted in Savannah and why?

Plants are like children to us. Each one is different and has its own individual pros (and cons). We love them all for their uniqueness. Of course we do have our favorites, like alocasia because of the wide array of varieties and ferns because of their easy care and fullness.

Please tell us some of the benefits of plants in homes?

Plants help improve indoor air quality. Some studies say they help reduce stress levels as working with plants can be therapeutic. They are also an inexpensive way to decorate and enhance the beauty of your living or work space.

What do you love about Savannah?

Savannah is the embodiment of grace and charm. From her history to her architecture and her people, I feel as if she has embraced me the same way I’ve embraced her. The Spanish moss makes the live oak and crepe myrtle lined streets feel like a walk through a fairytale. The food, art and music don’t disappoint. I love the easy access to the ocean. And the intense drive of locals to support locals is an inspiration, especially as I add Planted to the mix.

What makes you feel most accomplished?

When I arrive at MY store in the morning, and unlock the door to my dream that I can share with MY CITY, I experience an overwhelming sense of not just accomplishment, but fulfillment and gratitude.

If you only had one night to spend in Savannah…what would you do?

I’d start with sunset at Tybee, ideally in a spot where I can watch the dolphins play. It’s hard to choose just one of our many eateries to dine at, so would likely “small plate hop” my way down Bay Street, and eventually wind my way towards City Market for some outdoor live music and people watching.
